A Redditor had shared a story on Reddit’s “AITA” subreddit, on 25 February, 2022. The Redditor called her mother-in-law “Barbara,” and she described her as a conservative woman who would always be critical towards the OP and would try to “fix” her.
When OP dyed her hair, Barbara accused her with a great sin, as she stated that OP had changed her appearance which God gave her and that it was a great sin. Also, the mother-in-law had threw away OP’s lingeries, as Barbara stated that it’s sinful for her son to see them, which they were married at that point.
Barbara also warned OP to not get pregnant before their marriage, “or else she & her family will disown the baby and cut me off.”
Recently, Barbara started to make comments about OP’s face, “she kept sending me boxes and boxes of this tea she recommened since she’s big on herbals and essential oils.” She wanted her to try the teas she was sending to OP, but OP stated that, “I already told her that it makes my stomach hurt and causes me to throw up.”
During the recent family lunch, while OP’s husband “Tommy” was at work, as Barbara examined OP’s face, she said, “Oh looks like the tea has FINALLY yeilded some pretty good results!, your face no longer looks pale and outworn like before.”
Then everybody stopped eating and examined OP’s face. As she felt embarrassed, she wanted to humiliate her mother-in-law and she winked as she said, “”no, Tommy’s actually been helping me out with the de-stress every night in his own special way.”
As the whole table laughed, Barbara felt offended and left the table after she said, “excuse me.” Then the table went silent, and once everyone was out, the arguing started as Barbara yelled at OP as she accused her with embarrassing her in front of the family.
“She shamed me for talking about her son’s intimacy and said that I clearly am taking advantage of him. I guarenteed that I wasn’t taking advantage but she kept berating me then wrapped up with a request for an apology after I offended her infront of the family.” OP concluded her story.
