When a Singaporean-flagged container vessel hit a pillar of the bridge, the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore collapsed.

A CASA member, as CASA Executive Director Gustavo Torres had confirmed, was one of the people who were on the bridge when it collapsed.

“Sadly, we discovered that one of the construction workers involved was a longtime member of our CASA family, adding an even deeper layer of sorrow to this already grievous situation,” CASA Executive Director Gustavo Torres stated.

El Salvadorian Miguel Luna, who was living in Maryland for more than 19 years was on the bridge when it collapsed.

His wife, María del Carmen Castellón, is feeling devastated after she learned that her husband was on the bridge when it collapsed. The grieving wife stated, “They only tell us that we have to wait, that right now they cannot give information. [We feel] devastated, devastated because our hearts are broken because we don’t know how they have been rescued yet. We are just waiting for the news.”

“It hurts my heart to see what is happening. We are human beings and they are my coworkers,” his colleague Jesus Campos said. “First of all, God, be alive. It’s what you want most.”

It is still unclear how many people were on the bridge when it collapsed, and it is known that 8 workers were on the bridge during the terrible incident.

One of the people who were saved was named as a person who was an employee of Brawner Builders. One of the two survivors of the tragedy is in “very serious condition.”

The tragic incident happened on Tuesday, when a container vessel named DALI hit to the Francis Scott Key Bridge. American Pilots Association executive director Clay diamond stated that the pilot did everything he could, but couldn’t stop the ship.

“Just minutes before the bridge, there was a total blackout on the ship, meaning that the ship lost engine power and electrical power, it was a complete blackout,” Diamond said.
