A mother shared her story on Reddit’s r/beyondthebump subreddit. She explained the story of how her mother-in-law took her child in the middle of the night.
Original Poster, the mother stated that her husband is the only child of his parents. And explained that the mother-in-law is very involved with their lives. She has no boundaries, and has a key of their house.
A little time ago, she explained that she welcomed her daughter. And since her daughter was born, her mother-in-law was in their house for the three days of the week. She was constantly criticising the OP, and was stating that her granddaughter would be sleeping all night long, if she would stay in her house.
OP explained, “I told her I’m not comfortable sending a breastfed baby away over night at 4 weeks. This last week she kept pushing the issue no matter how many times I said no.”
Then OP shared that they seperated their rooms with their daughter. And when her daughter was awake, they were feeding their baby with shifts. As they slept again in one night, OP was awake with fear, as she slept for four hours, without her baby woke her.
As she was thinking that her baby was dead, when she entered to her room, she saw that her daughter was not in her crib. As OP screamed, and started to run inside the house, her husband wake up as he was in panic too. OP took her phone to call the authorities, and saw her MIL’s message, as she shared a picture, and wrote, “sleepover at gamgams.”
OP shared, “I was immediately enraged. I screamed so hard I almost vomited. I called her and saw red. I told her I was coming to get the baby and she would never see her again and to never contact our family again.”
Then her husband went to his mother’s house, and took their baby. He explained that his mother stated she wanted to give them some break, and thought that they would hear the message sound, and be thankful for a good night’s sleep.
As her husband stated that OP needs to calm down, OP’s opinion about her husband had changed. “His lack of urgency about the situation makes me want to divorce him. We have never had any issues before this but this feels like a deal breaker to me. I already had PPA and now it’s through the roof.”
OP stated that she doesn’t feel safe in the house anymore. She said that she couldn’t sleep anymore, as she is expecting her mother-in-law to come and kidnap her baby again.
The Redditors who read the story, had stated that, she needs to move away from her mother-in-law.
One Redditor commented, “Since your MIL wants a baby so badly, tell your husband to go sleep at his mommy’s house until he decides he’s ready to be a grown up.”
