When it was the 15th of November, 2020, a woman shared her story on Reddit’s r/AITA subreddit. She stated that the relationship she had with her sister was strained.
OP stated, she tried to avoid having problems with her sister, as she wanted an environment where it was away from drama. They both had sons, which their ages were close to one another. OP’s son was 11, and her nephew was 13.
For her son’s birthday, she bought a gaming system, as her son wanted. Her son was happy with the gift, as he wanted the gaming system, which he was addicted to it.
Her sister was financially struggling, so OP was helping her so her son would have fun too. So for the Christmas, OP wanted to make a gesture for her nephew too.
“I went a little crazy and I purchased the same gaming system for [my nephew] for Christmas. I already had it ready and wrapped under my tree,” OP wrote.
A day before, OP’s sister and her family came to her house. As her nephew wanted to play games on her son’s system, she allowed it, as she said that he should be careful not to break it.
After 30 minutes later, her son came crying. When she went upstairs, she saw that the gaming system was lying on the ground, as it was in pieces.
After that, she asked what happened, OP explained, “[My son] sobbed and pointed at his cousin. I asked my nephew if he did this and he started to laugh. He said that it was a “stupid baby toy” and that he saw people break them online,”
She talked with her sister, and stated that her nephew should face the consequences of his actions.
Then she asked her question, “AITA for taking back my [nephew’s] Christmas present and giving it to my son.”
As many Redditors stated, the sister and her son should apologize, and should face the consequences of the nephew’s action.
Some other people stated that sister and her son had ruined the family Christmas, and criticised her for not parenting her 13-year-old son.
