WHEN THE DAUGHTER DID NOT WANTED HER FATHER TO WALK HER DOWN THE AISLE, THE FATHER CHANGED HIS MIND, AND DID NOT PAID FOR THE WEDDING
The shocking revelation came in the wedding day of her daughter, as she stated that she will not let her father to walk her down the aisle, which the statement made father hurt with the situation. Then the father had stated that he changed his mind, and is not going to pay for the wedding.
The father had shared his story on Reddit’s r/AITA subreddit. The username of the father is, u/Live_Appointment4219. As the OP had stated he raised his daughter to be an independent person. And she became one.
After her engagement, she had stated that she doesn’t want her father to walk her down the aisle. She reasoned her request as she explained that her parents doesn’t “own” her, and they shouldn’t be “give her away.”
OP stated that with the request of his daughter, he felt hurt, as it was nothing more than a tradition, and a special moment between a father and daughter.
He stated that with her mother, they never had treated their daughter as if she was an object, and tried their best for her. The father felt that the request of his daughter was extreme, so he stated that if she doesn’t want her father to walk her down the aisle, he won’t be paying for the wedding.
The father had reasoned her statement as he wrote, “I don’t want to come across as controlling or manipulative. It’s true, I don’t “own” her, I also don’t owe her a fully-funded wedding. She can pay for her own wedding if she’s insistent on this stance.”
Many Redditors had reacted to the story, under the comments section. Some had praised the father, some had accused the father as if he wanted to be the center of attention.
A Redditor had commented, “She will regret this decision later in life,”
And added, “Parents don’t own their children, but we do guide them through the various stages of growth and change.”
Another Redditor had stated, “She wants it her way, then you have your money! Let her be grown and pay her way,” and gave an example from her own life, as she stated that her husband had paid for their wedding.
The OP responded as, “I wouldn’t pay as well! Good for you, Dad. Tough love!”
