STEVE BUSCEMI STATED THAT HE WAS TRAUMATIZED, AFTER HE HELPED TO PEOPLE IN 9/11
At the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, many people across the country had paid their tributes to the heroes of that hard time, to the peoplo who lost their lives, as they helped afterwards of the attacks.
Iconic actor, Steve Buscemi was one of the firefighters who had helped to the people afterwards of the 9/11 attacks. At the 20th anniversary of the terrible attacks, Buscemi spoke about his PTSD left from that day.
As one of the famous name in Hollywood, Buscemi had appeared in legendary movies like, Reservoir Dogs, Fargo, The Big Lebowski, and Boardwalk Empire. As many people knows and loves him with his roles in various movies.
But, in truth, Buscemi is another hero from 9/11 attacks, as he was one of the brave firefighters who had helped people on the ground during that day, as he was a volunteer.
During the 80s, Buscemi was a member of Engine 55 in Lower Manhattan, which he resigned after he started his acting career. At the 9/11, he rushed to Engine 55, and helped to his old friends.
In 2014, Buscemi spoke with CBS News, and stated, “When 9/11 happened, I came back here on the 12th and had my gear, I still had my old, you know, my turnout coat and my helmet and the boots,”
As he was already a famous name and face during that time, he only tried to play his role as a volunteer firefighter, with his old friends from Engine 55.
He stated that someone said, while they were helping people in the rumble, “This is probably going to kill us in 20 years,”
“I don’t know if anything could have stopped any of the first responders and the volunteers who were they to do this enormous job. But it would have been good to at least know of the dangers going in,”
“You could just feel it, like that it was not safe.”
“’Never forget,’ everyone said. Some people have no choice. What’s surprising is who has to be reminded,”
“Never forget, because people are still struggling. People are still dying.”
As he stated that he had no injuries or illness he received during helping people in 9/11, Buscemi explained that he was mentally hurt with the situation, as he stated that he had PTSD from that time.
“I was only there for like five days, but when I stopped going and sort of tried to just live my life again, it was really, really hard,”
“I was depressed. I was anxious. I couldn’t make a simple decision.”
“It wasn’t until I got home that the magnitude of it all caught up with me,”
“I was already seeing a therapist, and though it was almost impossible to process the enormity of what had happened, just having someone with whom to sit with all the feelings was a consolation.”
