OLD WOMAN WHO GOT STAINS ON HER DRESS SCREAMED FOR HELP ON A RAINY NIGHT AS SHE RUSHED TO A GAS STATION
–Story of the Day–
As the storm continued in the dark of the night, Tara Wilson was looking out of the window of the gas station she was working for. It was not her dream job, as she was studying journalism at the college, she was not there where she dreamed of herself.
She left her college to help her sick mother. As time passed, she saw a shadowy figure approaching to the gas station, then the figure entered to the station and said, “Please, oh please…”
As Tara saw the old lady, who was covered with mud, and soaking wet due to the rain outside, Tara said, “Ma’am?”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t hear you come in!”
The woman found a place to talk between her heavy breathing and said, “Please,” she took a breath, “I need your help…”
“Oh I’ll just bet you do!” A mean voice was heard on the background, the manager, Tara’s boss, Mr. Anderson started to talk.
“I’ve had enough of you derelicts walking in cadging hot food and coffee every time it rains.” He said, “Get out!”
“Please,” said the old lady, as she took another breath and continued, “I need help, my phone is smashed…”
“Help?” Mr. Anderson said, “Did you drive here? Do you need gas? Or motor oil? Do you have money or a credit card?”
“No,” old lady answered, “You don’t understand…”
Mr. Andreson snarled, “I understand you just fine. Get out! No car and no money, you get nothing!”
“My husband and I had a car accident, he’s lying unconscious on the road…All I ask is that you make a phone call!” The old woman shaked her head, as she was traumatized.
Tara got shocked with the events, and said, “Ma’am, I’ll call 911 for you,” as she called 911, she heard no response.
“I’m sorry, but the storm probably took down the phone lines and the cell tower. Where did you crash?” Tara said.
“My poor John, oh my poor John…” The old woman was shaking.
“Come on, Ma’am, I’ll drive you to him. We’ll take him to the hospital.” Tara said, as she held the shoulder of the woman.
Then Mr. Anderson went mad, as he screamed, “You most certainly will not!”
“You walk out that door and you’re fired!”
Tara looked with shaming eyes towards her boss, and said, “Go ahead, fire me. But I won’t leave a man dying by the roadside.”
“Thank you, my dear, my husband is an influential man, you won’t regret this.” The old lady said.
“No matter who your husband is, I won’t regret it, Ma’am,” Tara said, as she helped lady to sit in her car.
“My mother always taught us to help whenever we could, no matter who it is.”
As the woman led Tara to the crash scene, they found the car wreckage, and there was the old man lying, covered in a blanket, on the side of the road.
“John,” the old woman cried, and continued, “I’m here, darling, I found help!”
The old man was awake, but he had no power to keep his eyes open. With the help of the old lady, Tara managed to carry the old man to the backseat of her car, then started to drive to the nearest hospital.
They rushed to the hospital, and the hospital staff took the old couple, as they led Tara to rest at the waiting room. After a while, a doctor came to the room and asked if she was the one who brought the old couple.
Yes. Are they alright?” Tara asked.
“Thanks to you!” Doctor smiled, as he continued, “Mrs. Smythe told me what you did. Her husband had internal bleeding, and another half an hour would have been too late. We’re also treating Mrs. Smythe for shock and hypothermia.”
“Mrs. Smythe, that’s the lady’s name? And they are going to be alright?” Tara asked to the doctor.
“Yes, you saved their lives,” the doctor continued, “You’re a hero!”
Tara responded, “No. Mrs. Smythe is the hero. She walked five miles in the rain to get help for her husband, and she never gave up!”
Then Tara learned that the MR. Smythe owned the local TV station. And when he learned that Tara lost her job to save the lives of his and his wife’s, he offered her a new job at the TV station.
At the news that covered their crash story, the news team had mentioned the ill treatment of Mr. Anderson, and that led him to be fired.
