MOTHER WROTE HER SON A NOTE, DUE TO HIS RUDENESS, BOY STORMED OUT AS HE READ THE NOTE
A mother had tried to talk with her 13-year-old son, after his rude behaviour. When talking was not affective, she decided to use another technique to overcome his mean behaviour.
The events happened in 2015, when Heidi Johnson, the mother, had an argument with her son, Aaron. After the argument, she had enough with her son’s mean behaviour, so she decided to give her son a, “rude awakening,” due to his mean actions. She wrote Aaron a letter.
“Not only will he find this [letter] on the door, but his mattress stripped, and the toys and clothes that I bought confiscated.” The mother stated.
In the letter, Heidi stated that her son now could live in her house, if he starts to buy his own items, give rent for the clothes, or “[renegotiating] his terms of being a child.”
Heidi stated that her YouTuber son, Aaron wanted to be treated as an equal, rather than her child, and she accepted that with her letter. She gave him the responsibilities of an adult, and expected from him to contribute to their family, with rents and other things.
As Aaron read the letter, he went mad and stormed out. Heidi stated, “He came home, saw the note, crumpled it on the floor, and stormed out of the apartment. He was still livid when he got home. He decided to stage a ‘sit in’ in my room, where he did laugh at me.”
Later, Aaron had accepted his mother’s conditions, as they agreed on a contract they created together, which was named, “Aaron & Mom’s Contract.”
“He removed some electronics and items I missed that he felt he should have to earn back for his behavior. He apologized, and asked what could he do to make things better and start earning items back.” Heidi stated.
Heidi also stated that her son’s behaviour changed after the letter approach, as she stated, “It has made a difference, though. When I ask him to do something, he does it.”
As mother shared the story on her social media account, she received criticism towards her parenting, as people suggested that she was shaming her child.
An online user stated, “You are obligated to provide for him. Just [because] he was making money as a “YouTuber” doesn’t mean you get to charge him for food and rent. You literally can’t do that.”
As she received criticism, she was praised by other parents too. Heidi stated that she doesn’t want anything bad for her son, as she only wanted him to behave. She stated that as she was a single mother, she is trying her best for her son, Aaron.
Some other parents had asked for advice to Heidi, as she explained, “I had one mom message me about her 7-year-old that was having some behavior issues; so I spent several hours one evening compiling some tools and ideas that she could use.”
