MOTHER-IN-LAW WANTED TO BE PAID, AFTER SHE CLEANED THE HOUSE HER SON AND DAUGHTER-IN-LAW LIVES, WHEN NO ONE ASKED FROM HER TO DO

As a couple were rushed to the hospital, for welcoming their baby. The mother-in-law stated that she would feed the dogs of the couple. But after they returned to their house, they found the note the mother-in-law left them at the fridge, with charges.

On the 9th of October, 2023, a woman shared a story on Reddit’s r/AITA subreddit. 31-year-old woman shared that she gave birth to her son and she stayed at the hospital it was until the 8th of October.

The OP shared that her water got broke while she was at home, waiting for her due date, her husband had rushed her to the hospital, as they got no chance to clean it, and left the blanket and the carpet where her water was broke.

OP’s mother-in-law had offered her help with the dogs, for they were going to stay away for a while, which the couple appreciated. When they returned to their house, they saw a not on the fridge, where mother-in-law stated that she cleaned the whole house, and she charged the couple for that.

Mother-in-law explained that she wanted $25 per hour, and $200 for the cleaning products she bought. OP shared, “Now, while it was nice of her to clean my carpet and then the rest of my house, neither of us asked her to do this,”

As her husband read the note his mother left on the fridge, he texted his mother as, “Hello mom, we really appreciate your help over the last few days while [my wife] was in the hospital. It was great having someone over to look after the dogs.”

“When we entrusted you with the dogs, we really thought you were helping us out of the good of your heart and not giving you an opportunity to make a quick buck. We are family, and are hurt you would do something like this while [my wife] was so unwell,” the husband continued in his message.

The mother-in-law stated that she did what she did for the kindness of her heart, and OP stated that family members were praising the mother-in-law, for her actions.

As OP turned her phone off, her husband had faced a lot of criticism towards his message to his mother. Their family were accusing them with manipulating the situation, where the mother-in-law had helped them.

As OP’s husband was sad that he was receiving a terrible treatment from his family, he wanted to pay the money his mother wanted from them. But OP was against it. Then the mother-in-law had stated that she doesn’t want the money of the cleaning products, as she said that she left them as gifts. But she wanted to be paid for her time, as she cleaned a “biohazard,” as she described.
