MOTHER-IN-LAW MADE A SCENE, AS SHE OPENED THE CHRISTMAS GIFT OF HER DAUGHTER-IN-LAW
Nancy wanted some advice, as she experienced a catastrophic Chritsmas last year, on the family gathering at her mother-in-law’s house.
As it is their tradition, the family of her husband always comes around for Christmas, and celebrate the holiday alltogether. And last year, it was mother-in-law’s turn to host the celebration. As the whole family gathered in her house, she saw that her mother-in-law had decorated the house beautifully. The kitchen was filled with the smell of cinnamon, and the tree was standing, as it was shining in the livingroom.
At the time of presenting gifts, the whole family had gathered in the living room. Everyone was waiting for their turn in excitement. As Nancy had picked the gifts carefully, for each member of the family, when it was her mother-in-law’s turn to open her gift, the drama started.
As the mother-in-law opened the package from Nancy, she had screamed, and the whole atmosphere in the room had changed to a grim theme, from a colorful Christmas theme. The mother-in-law started to cry, as she lost herself. Nancy was feeling terrible, as she witnessed to her mother-in-law.
Nancy had bought a specially designed silk scarf that costed $900 for her mother-in-law. It was puprle. She thought that her mother-in-law would love it, since it was beautiful and a luxurious scarf.
As she was drowning in her own tears, mother-in-law said, “You’ve ruined Christmas for me!”
Nancy was shocked, and finally she found courage to as what happened.
As mother-in-law had continued to cry, she stated that the every gift she received is trash, scarf being the last on the list. She stated her disappointment. Then, she said that she expected more from her family.
As she was distraught, she had focused all her disappointment to Nancy, as she said, “As a woman, you should have asked me what I wanted before picking out such a cheap scarf with an ugly color.”
But everyone felt that the words were not for just Nancy. She was devastated, she couldn’t believe how a gift sharing part turned into a tragedic catastrophe. Nancy couldn’t understand that if it was truly because of her scarf, or there was something else that annoyed her so much that she lost control of herself.
As they had moved to table, to eat their dinner, the air was still filled with tension, as her mother-in-law had put on everyone.
There were no laughs, and so little conversation that most part of the dinner was passed in silence.
Nancy and her husband had decided to leave early, as they couldn’t handle the tension more. On their way back home, she was thinking about the tears her mother-in-law had shed.
And for this year, again, the mother-in-law had invited everyone for a Christmas celebration. And Nancy asked that if she should went there or not, in regards of the things that happened on the last year.
