As he was a talented, famous actor, David McCallum also was a doting grandfather too. The legendary actor had passed away at the age of 90, this year. On the statement that his family released after his passing, they said, “He was the kindest, coolest, most patient and loving father. He always put family before self.”
As he had an amazing family, with his wife Katherine Carpenter, before reaching to it, he had suffered a divorce from Jill Ireland.
He had stated, “Not least because we had three children,” after his separation.
He met with Carpented in 1965, during a photoshoot for “Man from U.N.C.L.E.” she was 21 then. They fell in love in a short period of time, and started their relationship. When his divorce was finalized in 1967, he had asked the question to Carpenter.
“Katherine and I are two halves of a whole. We work well together, and when problems come along, we solve them. The best thing about marriage is you find out what the other person wants and make [expletive] sure they get it.” McCallum had said once, about his relationship with Carpenter.
He once shared a picture of his wife, while Carpenter was shooting a sniper rifle. “I am married to a crack shot,” he had captioned.
“Grandkids are most impressed.”
From Jill Ireland, McCallum has three children, and with Katherine, he had two children. He has five children in total.
As he had revealed in an interview, McCallum loved to cook for his family, as he was interested with Italian food.
He had published his book, “Once a Crooked Man,” when he was 68. McCallum stated, “Writing a book is great because it gives you something to do,”
“It is about Harry Murphy, an actor who lives in New York, who has a serendipitous moment and goes off to save someone’s life.” He explained about his book.
McCallum had loved the sharing instants from his life on his Facebook page. He had shared many moments.
With Jill Ireland, he had shared three adopted kids, Valentine, Paul and Jason. And with Carpenter, he had two children, Sophie and Peter.
His son Jason passed away at the age of 27, in 1989.
His other son, Valentine is in the showbiz, as his father too. He is a musician, and the loving father of McCallum’s granddaughter, Stella.
His other son, Paul, also tried his luck with showbiz too, and he also gave his father, McCallum, another granddaughter.
“At the same time, there’s a frustration that you couldn’t really have done anything about it, which makes it even worse.” McCallum had stated about the passing of his son Jason.
About his grandchildren, McCallum had stated, “They call me grand-daddy. We don’t like grandpa because it sounds old – and I’m not old, and some of them have the cheek to call me grand-ducky.”
In 2020, he had stated, “I can sit here for a week and talk to you about the past 82 years, and 99.9% will be wonderful and positive.”
