HOW ROBERT REDFORD LOST BOTH OF HIS SONS, AND HOW HE DEALT WITH THOSE TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE
With his wife, Sibylle Szaggars, Redford had married in 2009. They are together for 14 years, as they had no kids together. He welcomed his children with his first wife, Lola Van Wagenen. They had welcomed four children together.
They had two sons and two daughters, Scott, James, Shauna and Amy. As Robert lived with lots of love, he had suffered a lot too, as he lost his sons.
His son, Scott was born in 1959, and he passed away due to sudden infant death syndrome. At that time, Robert was 21, and his wife was 20.
He stated, “It’s pretty traumatic when it happens, particularly when you’re that young. You’re not equipped to deal with it.”
After they divorced in 1985, the parents still suffered from the passing of their baby. Their son, Scott was buried in Provo City Cemetery in Provo, Utah.
In 2020, their second son, James was passed away. James was born in 1962. As James was diagnosed with, primary sclerosing cholangitis, in 1993, he experienced two liver transplants.
But in 2019, James was diagnosed with a liver cancer, bile-duct cancer, and sadly he passed away. His wife, Kyle Redford had announced the passing of her husband from her social media account.
“Jamie died today. We’re heartbroken. He lived a beautiful, impactful life & was loved by many. He will be deeply missed.”
With his wife, Kyle, James was married for 32 years, and welcomed two children together. Their son Dylan, and daughter, Lena. As his wife stated that she was grateful for her children, she explained the support she received from her children.
After the passing of his secon son, James, Robert stated to CNN, “The grief is immeasurable with the loss of a child.”
James worked with Amy Tan in documentaries, and when she learned that James was passed, she had released a statement from her Facebook account. She stated that she was devastated with his passing. She explained she learned the passing of James, when he didn’t responded to her email, from his wife, Kyle.
As he worked with his father too, when it was 2005, James co-founded the Redford Center with his father, about the environmental impact of filmmaking. At the website of the organization, it is written, “Merging the powers of environmental justice, collective action, education, and impact filmmaking.”
And now, the website states that their job is continuing as, “in honor of everything that James stood for and all that he envisioned for our collective future.”
It was in 2018, Robert Redford stated that he will be retired from acting, after his movie, The Old Man & The Gun was finished. He stated that as he was working in the industry since he was 21, it was time for retirement.
He had worked for 60 years in the industry, as he started to his career in 1960. The first screening of him came with Tall Story, with a minor role. Then he nominated for Oscar in 1973, with The Sting.
In 2001, he received an honorary Oscar, and in 1980, he received Best Director Oscar, with the movie he directer, Ordinary People.
He also co-founded that Sundance Film Festival, in 1978.
As he stayed away from the industry for two years, he returned with Dark Winds, and Game Of Thrones, as the executive producer.
