A Redditor shared his story on Reddit’s r/raisedbynarcissists subreddit. The man shared a story from his childhood, which was when he worked hard in summer and saved $100 for himself. He stated that his mother stole his money, and accused OP with lying against her.
OP stated that he was 12 at that time. He had grown interest in building model cars, and airsoft guns. He wanted to mix his two interest, and wanted to build an airsoft gun from modelling pieces. The total amount he needed was $100, so he needed to work for his aim.
As he worked hard, he collected the money he needed, and rushed towards his parents to share his excitement with them. And stated that he needed them to order the things he wanted from a hobby website. He needed their credit card, so he said that he would give them the $100 in cash. After his parents took the money, they acted as if the computer was broken down. OP shared, “I was well aware that they were lying to me because even then, I was a hell of a lot better with computers than them.”
As he sensed that something was wrong, he wanted his money back, but at that time, his mother had ran towards her bedroom, and locked herself into their bathroom. As OP kicked the door and shouted, his father came and dragged him out of the room. His mother said to him that, “you don’t need this money, I will put it in your bank account for college.”
They forced him to stay in his room for a day, and when he was allowed to out, he saw that his parents were acting as if nothing was happeden yesterday. OP shared that he cried and screamed that he wants his money back, his mother said, “what money, you are always lying about having money.”
But as he kept asking for his money, OP’s parents constantly stated that he was lying, as they said, “you have a creative imagination”, “you just want your toys so you are lying”, “you are trying to steal from us.”
OP stated that he learned a lesson worth more than $100, with not trusting his parents about money issues.
