HER DAUGHTER TRIED TO RETURN TO HER MOTHER, AFTER SHE CHOSE HER CHEATING FATHER OVER HER MOTHER
The mother shared her story on Reddit’s r/AITA subreddit. She explained that her daughter chose her cheating father afther the divorce, over her, and cut her contact with her. Then her daughter came to her as she asked for money.
The mother started her story as she gave some background information. She explained that her daughter, Kelly, was twelve at the time when she divorced from her cheating husband. Both her own family, and her in-laws pushed her to stay married, as they are conservative people. Her ex-husband had cheated on her for two times. At the first time, OP tried to split, but the family convinced her to stay for her daughter, so she wouldn’t need to live with separated parents and receive trauma from it.
As she was devastated, she continued with her marriage. But when he cheated for the second time, she had enough, and proceeded with a divorce. At the period of the divorce, her in-laws had poisoned her daughter against her and called her a hypocrite, as she doesn’t forgive her father, no matter how her father is sorry.
She couldn’t get the custody of her daughter no matter how hard she fought. She explained, “In the end I got a nice settlement and some alimony, but didn’t get custody. I tried my hardest to still be in Kelly’s life but by the time she was a teen she was fully convinced that I was the bad guy and told the courts she didn’t want to see me anymore.”
As she was devastated with the refusal of her daughter, she decided to finish her school. She managed to continue and build a new life for her, as her best friend, Tina had helped her, as she described her as, was my rock.
She learned that her ex-husband, who is a cheater, lost his job and sued by his co-worker. As Kelly lost her money too, she decided to contact to her mother. OP was sad that her daughter had contacted her for money, as Kelly needed money for her college.
Then she made her daughter sign an agreement that said she will leave her money to her goddaughter, the daughter of Tina. And so she agreed when she received her college money. She explained that her relatives are thinking that, “this will damage any chance at rebuilding a relationship with Kelly and that I should just split everything equally. However, I don’t want to have the type of relationship with Kelly that I feel like I have to pay for.”
