As Vincent is a variety actor, he had acted in lots of projects, where he proved his talent in acting. With his success in acting, he becomes the role he is acting in, and people forgets the real Vincent.

As he started his career in off-Broadway plays, he had worked as a bodyguard for Yul Brynner and Robert Plant.

He also worked as a nightclub bouncer, deliverer and a cab driver to help himself to achieve his dreams to be an actor.

As he worked in some low-budget movies, Matthew Modine, his friend, had convinced him to sent an audition tape to Kubrick, who was casting for his movie.

Vincent was in a fit shape at that time, where he was 6-foot-3 and had a muscular body. To be able to get the role of Leonard, who was a dumb, fat Marine recruit, he needed to gain weight, and cut his long hair.

Vincent had gained more than 70 pounds, which made him the actor who gained the most weight for a role.

He stated, “[Kubrick] asked me early on would I be all right with gaining this weight and I went over there and gained about 30 pounds, and I remember him seeing it and saying that I only look like I could kick everybody’s a**. He thought some more weight would be needed.”

“I think it went up to 80 pounds…from 200 to 280.”

As he was 280 pounds during the shooting, for the boot-camp scenes, Vincent had struggled a lot, because he was not in his fit body anymore, as he gained lots of weight, which affected his mobility.

After the movie, as Vincent stated, he received weird treatments from the people, as they believed that Vincent was indeed Leonard, his character in Full Metal Jacket, and approached to him as if he was that dumb, fat man.

“People treat you differently when you’re that size you gotta remember my head was shaved so it was like a completely different persona from me being this long lanky actor to a big burly guy with a bald head…it was a very strange life change.” Vincent said.

“It changed my life. Women didn’t look at me, most of the time I was looking at their backs as they were running away. People used to say things to me twice, because they thought I was stupid.”

“Stanley made my career, there’s no question to that I’ve done over 50 films, because of him. Because of that part.”

He was a little child, when his parents had divorced. He was affected a lot from the incident. Then his mother had married with George Meyer. After their marriage, they moved to Hialeah, Florida. He had a shy childhood, where he was living in his room, and not leaving much.

In the 90s, Vincent had dated with Greta Scacchi. They had appeared together in some movies together, and they had a daughter together, Leila George.

When it was 1997, Vincent married with the Dutch model, Carin van der Donk. In 1999, they had their first child, and after some problems they separated, but later, they returned to their relationship and welcomed their second child in 2008.
