GRANDMOTHER REFUSED TO MEET WITH HER NEWBORN GREAT-GRANDDAUGHTER, AFTER SHE LEARNED HER NAME

A woman shared her story of how her grandmother refused to meet with her daughter, after she heard the name of her daughter. They were talking on the phone, and when she heard the name, she hung up, and then they never talked.
The woman shared the story on Reddit. 27-year-old woman and her 31-year-old husband were happy that their daughter was born. They couldn’t wait to share the news with their family.
As a tradition in her family side, there would be a gathering in two or three months, so they would have a party in the name of the baby, and they would learn the name of their baby.
And the family would give gifts to the baby, while the grandmother would give a handmade blanket with the name of the child is written on it. Those parties went greatly for years, until OP shared the name with her grandmotherç
Grandmother of the OP was named Lucille until she was eight, but later, she changed her name to Barbara.
After she was eight, she started to call herself Barbara, and to anyone she met, she said that her name was Barbara. Later on life she changed her name legally.
When she was asked later in life, she just said that she liked the name better, about changing her name to Barbara.
OP also explained that her husband’s grandmother was a big figure in his growing. She raised her husband until he was 19, which was when she passed away. Her favorite celebrity was Lucille Ball, and to honor her, OP’s husband wanted to name their daughter as Lucy.
And while they were Facetiming OP’s family, they revealed the name, and everyone was happy, but the grandmother.
As OP asked what was wrong, her grandmother asked the reason why they named the newborn with that name. As OP explained, grandmother didn’t liked the answer, and hung up. And she never responded back, when OP tried to call her again.
Then OP learned that she felt that they were mocking her with the name Lucy. The grandmother didn’t even attended to baby’s part, and did not gave the blanket to them. She stated that she only would forgive them if they change the name of the baby.
“My grandma has always been kind. I have no idea what to do. Births in my family are always celebrated and happy events but this has ruined it,” OP said.
Redditors stated that the grandmother has a trauma which she doesn’t want to talk about, and that is why she is acting that way.
“There’s trauma there that grandma isn’t sharing. But that’s her issue, not yours,” said another Redditor.
