FATHER HAD TOOK OF HIS CLOTHES IN THE SCHOOL MEETING
Ira Latham, a father from Gilbert, Arizona, did an unexpected thing in the school board meeting, to point something out. He took of his clothes in front of everyone.
Under his formal clothes, he was wearing a crop top, and shorts. He had stayed with those in the meeting, to state that in their school, it is an appropriate thing to wear those.
“Under the proposed policy, this would be appropriate in a classroom,” Ira had said in the meeting.
The meeting was about the new dress policy, the Higley Unified School District started. And since May, they are having meetings in that regard.
The policy can be read as, “clothing must cover all private body parts and/or undergarments and must not be see-through. Undergarment waistbands and/or straps that are incidentally visible under clothing are permitted; however, undergarments may not be worn as clothing.”
While he was seen with a crop top, father had stated that, “Under the proposed policy, this would be appropriate in a classroom.”
The old dressing policy were not allowing children to reveal the certain areas on their body, but with the new policy, they may.
“As a parent, I expect the district to be able to enforce policies that help my children be able to go to class and know how they can contribute to a safe classroom environment, as well as limiting the needless distractions in class,” Ira Latham had said in the meeting.
“This policy does not do that. I also think that it brings a lot of unnecessary pressure on teachers having to deal with the vagueness of this policy,”
“Because I have no other way to describe my concerns about this policy, I’ll do an object lesson,” he said while he was getting undressed.
“Now, if you ask me, this is inappropriate for a board meeting. If you have a dress code policy that allows this in a classroom, it does not promote a safe classroom environment,”
Board president, Tiffany Schulz seemed unhappy regarding the situation. She stated that female students are on the aim with the old policy.
Anna Van Hoek, another boarding member, had stated that she is on the same page with Ira Latham, she stated that it is “self-respect” we need to teach children, and it is one of the things that they should come to the school as if they are going to work.
“If we are prepping our children to be college and career-ready, then they need to learn to be able to have self-respect, and that doesn’t include showing off their body parts,” she said.
“The dress code that they wanted to get to is just basically a dress code for a public pool. Make sure that kids cover their underwear, and that’s about it.” Ira Latham added.
“We’re saying that they need to cover up because of the way it might make someone else feel, and that is wrong,” Tiffany Schulz had responded.
“These are kids. They’re not at a job and I recognize at the end of the day this is the most job that they have but we need to allow freedom.” Another member who had agreed with Schulz, Amanda Wade said.
