69-year-old Hollywood icon Kathleen Turner, had her breakthrough in the 80s, with Body Heat. With her part in the movie, she became one of the biggest names in the Hollywood.
After her movie, Romancing the Stone, with Michael Douglas, they had kept their friendship for 40 years. Even with their great chemistry, they never had the relationship.
As Douglas was splitted from his wife, Diandra, at that time and Turner was single, she was aware that being with Douglas would have impacted her career.
As she received her breakthrough with Body Heat, she became a “sexual target”, as she was started to named with having relationships with Michael douglas, Jack Nicholson and Warren Beaty, the big stars of her time.
Turner stated that she never had anything with the names mentioned above.
This time, Turner and Michale Douglas are working on the same project again for Netflix, which Douglas is producing, The Kominsky Method.
The actors will play a divorced couple, who had a stormy relationship.
Turner stated, “It just is a comfort factor. Then you get to see it on screen and [realize], ‘Oh, this is really good.'”
“They say it’s like slipping on an old shoe, which I assume means it’s one of your favorite things. And that’s how it feels,”
When it was 1992, Turner was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. She stated that her doctor said to Turner, she has a big chance of ending up in a wheelchair.
As she was afraid that she would lost her ability to walk, and was in pain also, she wanted to keep her diagnosis as a secret from the public. But with that secret, she was started to called a drunk, and terrible comments about her look.
She was in her 30s, when she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. She felt terrible, as she was on her final years in Hollywood, where people would still see her as a leading actress.
But the disease was limiting her, as Turner stated that she couldn’t pick up her child herself. She had a daughter, Rachel Ann Weiss, from her ex, Jay Weiss.
She stated that she received a bad treatment from the studios, as she give example of Robert Downey Jr, who was having drinking problems, and still having roles, while she would’t get any roles due to her disease.
As Turner revealed that there was not much knowledge about her disease, she was receiving streoid for treatment, as there were some side effects. “If I went to pick up a bottle, for example, I couldn’t grip it, and people would assume I was inebriated.”
She stated the producers probably thought that the drinking problem can be controllable, but Turner’s disease was uncontrollable.
As she was in pain, she started to drink, to ease the pain. And later, that started to became a problem in her life.
As alcohol never became an issue with her work, she wanted to stay away from the painkillers, and that is why she had alcohol addiction, as she shared, “Now it’s sharing a glass of wine at the end of a show or something — an occasional pleasure,”
She talked about her movie, Body Heat as, “It doesn’t frustrate me that nearly four decades after that film, I’m still referred to as a sexual icon. I got over that a long time ago.”
As she is in her 60s now, the shock came with, when her mother stated that she was in shock as she had a 60-year-old daughter. Turner stated that, as she grow older, she became more aware of herself, as she get to now her talents.
Her daughter, Rachel is 36 years old at the moment, and she is in the entertainment industry too. In 1989, Rachel worked in the movie, Little Monsters, but later, she decided to move on with a musical career.
