57-year-old famous Hollywood star Dean Cain, was the legendary Superman of the 90s iconic TV show, “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.”
The variety of roles he was able to perform, made him a competitor to one of the legendary Hollywood names, Denzel Washington.
Dean was raised in Malibu, as he was living with his mother, Sharon Thomas, who was an actress. Christopher Cain had adopted Dean when he was 3 years old.
Before he started his career as an actor, he was the quarterback of Santa Monica High School team, where he was studying. Then he attended to Princeton University, where he broke some NCAA records, and dated with Brooke Shields.
After he was injured from his knee, he changed his career trajectory. He was signed with Buffalo Bills, before he was injured at the training.
“My original plan was to play football for 10 years and be a screenwriter. Then, when it was over so quickly, I was sitting at the computer, going, ‘Now, I’ve got to be a screenwriter?'” Dean said.
As his agent pushed him to be more active in the acting game, his father, Christopher Cain had casted him in his movie, Stone Boy. Then he had acted in various roles, and finally, had his breakthrough with the “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.”
After four seasons, the show was cancelled in 1997. Then he started to work for movies in Hollywood.
After he was casted for, “Ripley’s Believe It or Not!”, his career turned to some other direction. As the show proved itself successful, he started dating with the famous model, Samantha Torres. But they were separated, when Torres announced that she was pregnant from Cain.
After their son, Christopher Cain was born, Dean had fought hard for his child to receive custody, which he first wanted joint custody in 2001. Their custody case turned into something ugly, as Torres was against Dean’s custody.
After the court had started, the rumors of Dean’s drug addiction had appeared, which he proved his sobriety.
Dean stated, “I think we fundamentally disagreed on how to do this with a child out of wedlock. And then lawyers got involved…”
After two years, Christopher’s custody was turned into a joint custody in 2003, where every parent were caring for their child for half a week each.
Dean had talked about how being a father has importance to him as, “I’m better at being a father than I have been at anything else in my entire life.”
When it was 2011, Dean received the full custody of his child, which he revealed that he sacrificed so much for his son, as he said, “It affected my career like I can’t even explain. I turned down being one of, if not the highest-paid actor on television, for a show that ended up going for six years…”
“Nothing in my life has been as big a factor as having my father there to raise me. Fathers in the home is such a huge, important issue here in America and all throughout the world…I would never change what I’ve done in terms of being a father vs. a career.” He explained also.
As he put his son in front of everything, Dean stated that he took jobs as an actor, if they were compatible with his son, Christopher. He wanted to stay close to his son, so he didn’t take a job where he would be away from his son.
For a while, as he took his son with him on the movie sets, he only accepted family or faith based movies.
Dean stated, “The whole school went and watched it, and it had an effect on all the kids. It really did. This is powerful.” For his movie, God’s Not Dead.
