DAYS BEFORE HER PASSING, FATHER WHEELED DOWN HIS SICK DAUGHTER SO SHE COULD MARRY HER SCHOOL SWEETHEART
A ten-year-old girl, who wanted to be married with her school love, Emma Edwards, had reached to her dreams before she passed away.
Many children at her age would want to go to Disneyland, or to meet with a famous person, but Emma Edwards was not an ordinary child. She wanted to be married with her school love, her ten-year-old friend. That worried her parents, Alina and Aaron Edwards.
Emma was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in the April of 2022. Few months after, doctors stated that Emma had no time anymore. So the parents wanted to make Emma’s dreams come true, as they talked with DJ, Daniel Marshall Christopher Williams Junior’s parents.
The event had received many attention, as the local community took the name of “Emma’s Army,” and wanted to be a part of her dream.
The Bowman Gray Stadium announcer, Chris Carter, became the official organizer, and invited many more to the event.
“Emma’s like any other girl. She likes to play. She likes to be outside, and she loves people.” He said.
As the organizer talked, Emma’s treatment was harsh, and sometimes she would end up exhausted. “Most kids want to go to Disneyland, but Emma wanted to get married, be a wife, and have three kids.” Emma’s mother, Alina said.
As it was stated, Emma and DJ had tried to be married in their school before, when they were eight. Their classmates became their groomsmen and bridesmaids. When Alina and DJ’s mother learned that, they wanted to plan the whole wedding together in a fast way. “We threw it together in less than two days, everything ended up being donated. It was so precious, and it came together so well,” she stated.
“I thought she was the most beautiful person I ever saw. Ever since I loved her,” DJ said to the camera, when he was asked about Emma.
“It’s gonna be a very special night for all of us,” he added. “I was like, ‘I’m gonna marry that girl one day.’ Here we are today.”
“DJ has been Emma’s “Boo bear” since 3rd grade, and let me tell you, seeing these babies together will melt your heart. DJ protects her and helps her, and makes her heart soar. She loves him. And I know he loves her too! He has stood beside her through all her ups and downs and kept her smiling the whole time. DJ will forever be family.” Emma’s mother Alina said.
The wedding hapened on the 29th of June, where Emma’s cousin was the maid of honor, and she was carrying the ring. They parents had pushed Emma’s wheelchair, where she was wearing her purple dress, and smiled when her father started to wheel her down the aisle.
Aaron was with his daughter during the every process of the event.
After the beautiful event, Emma needed to rest, and she was immeately taken to her bed. There were many photographs taken from that event, and they will be a good reminder that the life is short, and we should be grateful and happy for the moments we share with our loved ones.
Emma lost her life on the 11th of July, 2023. On her obituart, was written, “Emma Brooks Edwards entered heaven and into the loving arms of her Great-grandma Frannie Annie on July 11, 2023, surrounded by those that love her most. Emma was 10 years old and battled “The imposter”, Leukemia, for 16 mos. Emma, our little unicorn, was born April 22, 2013, to adoring parents and three older siblings, completing the Edwards family. She loved arts and crafts, practical jokes, her family and friends, Jesus, and her newlywed “husband,” DJ. Emma was a light to all who loved her and an inspiration to all she met. She was absolutely the best daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, aunt, “wife,” lol, and friend. Her legacy is one of strength, humor, and limitless love for all people.”
