ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER HAD COMMENTED ABOUT HOW PARENTS ARE NOT RAISING CHILDREN PROPERLY NOWADAYS
In his recent talk with Howard Stern on SiriusXM show, Schwarzenegger stated that parents should be rough on their children. He added that people are now giving up too easy nowadays.
“Anybody that tries to baby themselves, and pamper themselves and protect themselves – ‘Oh, I don’t want to feel bad, I don’t really want to go through any discomfort’ – It’s over!” he said.
“You’re never going to get there. It’s just the way it is. You have to be able to struggle.”
He stated that children should be struggled. Also stated that they need to feel, “pain, misery and discomfort”, to be succesful in their adult life.
Back in his appaerance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, he had talked about his book, Be Useful: Seven Tools for Life. And explained how strict he was as a parent.
“Well, it depends what your definition is. For I think the way I grew up, I was lenient. But I think for American standards probably strict.” He said.
He has five children. Katherine, 33, and Christina, 31, Patrick, 30, and Christopher, 26, and from his affair, 26-year-old Joseph.
“So, I came in one time and the bed was made so immaculately, that I looked at it and I said, ‘Patrick, did you do that?’ And he said, ‘No, I didn’t.’”
“I grabbed the mattress, opened up the doors, and threw it off the balcony down into the swimming pool! It gives an example.”
“I threw everything out there!” said Schwarzenegger, against his son Patrick, who was in charge of helping the nanny making the bed.
“Katherine comes over with (her 3-year-old daughter) Lyla and she says, ‘Lyla, I told you already not to put the shoes there. Keep your shoes on or you put them away, but you don’t leave them there by the stand in front of the fireplace because you know what Daddy did? When I left my shoes there twice? The third time, he burned them in front of me and I cried.’”
“Now she uses the same methods which she cried over and that she complained about.” He said.
He also stated that a child should learn from the beginning, “to accept pain, misery and discomfort, all the things that you don’t like.”
“So many young kids these days shy away from that, but you have to be attracted to that…Don’t start creating a generation of wimps and weak people… Let’s not over-baby people. Let’s go and teach kids to be tough, to do sports, to study and struggle and go through these kinds of painful moments sometimes.”
Schwarzenegger also said that he “f***ed up”, when he had an affair with, Mildred Baena.
“We never left the first chapter. Because remember, it’s not like we had a feud. We didn’t have a fight. It’s just my f***** up, right? We always made it very clear that the kids should not suffer because of that.” He said.
“And she has her things, her relationship, I have mine…Even though it’s a different relationship, there’s no reason for me to feel anything other than love for her” he said about his new girlfriend, Heather Mulligan.
“That was, without any doubt, the biggest setback and the biggest failure. You can’t point the finger at anyone else.”
“It’s the funniest thing when Katherine comes over, she loves bragging to other people about how bossy I was, how tough I was when she grew up and how she didn’t get away with anything.”
“Funny enough, those kinds of things are what they bring up all the time with tremendous laughter and tell other people as a joke.”
And also Patrick, had told a story that his father had changed his life, when he was on Jimmy Kimmel Live, in 2021.
He stated that he was in a time period, where he was addicted to weed, and he needed to smoke it to be able to continue his life.
And when it was a time of Easter brunch with whole family, his father sat with him and talked to him and asked that if he is high at that moment or not.
Patrick had admitted that he was high, and then Arnold started to talk with him, and asked that what is the reason he is using weed, or what does he need to stop his habit.
Arnold asked that if he could do something to stop him, from his addiction. And with his father’s help, Patrick had stopped using weed.
His daughter, Katherine, had stated that being the daughter of Arnold Schwarzenegger, is sometimes difficult, since the name is a huge name to carry, and the fame it brings may cause difficulties.
She stated that, during her dates, her father mainly becames the subject of their talk, when it was 2014.
