A TEENAGER WANTED TO STOP HIS PARENTS FROM TAKING HIS INHERITANCE MONEY

A teenager shared his story on Reddit’s r/legaladvice subreddit. He wanted to learn how he could cut his parents off, about the issue where, as he stated, are stealing his inheritance for years. The teen wanted to learn how he could take action since he was 18 now.

OP stated that he lost his grandparents three years ago, and they excluded his parents from their will, as they left everything to their grandchildren. To OP, and his sister.

OP shared, “we were set up in a way to help avoid being taxed. I am not entirely sure as to the method that was used, but a trust was setup with annuities and interest payments.”

He explained that his parents had tricked the siblings, so they would be able to use the money. OP and his sister didn’t knew that they would be use their money, when they were added to their bank accounts as second names.

OP figured it out, when his parents paid the house in a short notice, and changed their cars too. And started to live with lavish payments.

OP shared, “I have checks and a debit card for the account, but my mom keeps those locked in a safe in her room because she can not “trust me” with them.”

Then he continued with telling that the parents are using all the money, while they are not letting their children to touch it. The only amount they receive from the money is a $50 gift card from a supermarket, annually.

Also, they are not allowed to leave the house without them, as OP explained that they are suspicious that OP and his sister would go to the bank, and withdraw money from the account.

OP stated that as he became 18, he went to the bank, because his parents were at a cruise trip, with his and his sister’s money. OP explained, “I walked up to the BOA and lied to a banker saying the debit cards on the account were both stolen. This deactivated them. I then made a 500 withdrawal and walked across the street to the chase building to open a new account with the 500 I withdrew from mine.”

Then OP left enough money to let them come back home, as he withdrawal all the money. And he went to the supermarket to get himself a new phone, since his old phone was close to death.

Then OP explained, “I had to order a taxi to take me to the office of the company that runs my inheritance. Using the banking and routing number I was able to set up a deposit for the new account.”

After that, he added his sister to his account, as the secondary name, so she would receive her own card, and access to the account. But she can’t touch to the money until she is 18.
