Claire was happy with her fiance Mike. They would love the seafood in their cafe, where they had a delicious lobster and an even better garlic bread.
When her colleagues wanted to eat out, Claire invited her friends to the cafe where she would eat with her fiance.
As she was the newcomer of the office, it was a great opportunity for her to connect with her colleagues.
“It’s going to be great, Claire,” one of the woman in the group said. “We need a night out, away from the numbers.”
After the work, she got preapared in the house, and went to pick her friend, Sunita, from the office. “I think Alice is pregnant,” she said while Claire was parking the car. “We’ve got to see if she has any drinks tonight.”
“$10 says you’re wrong,” Claire laughed.
As the dinner started with her friends from the office, the matter came to Claire’s relationship with her fiance. “We actually met on a blind date,” she said. “My brother was dating Mike’s cousin at the time, and it just seemed like a good idea.”
“How long were you dating before he proposed?” Alice asked. “Show us the ring!”
When Claire showed the family heirloom ring of Mike, “Hey!” Nancy said. “You’ve got to be joking! My sister has that exact ring! Her boyfriend proposed last month and also said it was a family heirloom. Imagine, all these grandmothers just passing their rings down the family.”
Claire was shocked with what she heard. “Nancy, can you show me a picture?” She asked.
“Here,” Nancy said, and handed over her phone. The ring was indeed the identical with her own ring.
“Scroll left,” Nancy said. “There are more photos of the proposal there.”
As Claire did, she saw her fiance Mike, proposing to Nancy’s sister.
“Why do you look like you’ve seen a ghost? Are you okay, Claire?” Alice asked when Claire went pale.
“Michael Harrison is your sister’s fiancé?” Claire asked to Nancy.
“Yes! He’s a great guy,” she said, “Do you know him?”
“Yeah, we’ve met,” Claire slowly said.
Then she texted to Mike, and invited him to join. And then she revealed the truth to the table. Nancy called her sister, Loren, and invited her as she revealed everything to her.
Then Mike arrived, and sat next to Claire. Few moments later, Loren arrived while Mike was eating Claire’s food. When he saw Loren, he went pale.
“Surprise!” Claire said. “Both your fiancées in one room!”
As Mike tried to talk, Claire stopped him. “Save it,” she said. “You can cover the bill. Here’s your nan’s ring back.”
“We deserve so much better than you,” Claire said before leaving.
