It was in June, when 52-year-old Doherty had announced her stage four cancer had mestasized to her brain.
She always tried to inform people from her social media account, as she gave updates regarding her health condition.
It was 2015, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, but after two years of treatment, the cancer was gone. Two years later it came back, as she had revealed in 2020, in Good Morning America.
She had stated in the show, “It’s going to come out in a matter of days or a week that I’m stage four, so my cancer came back and that’s why I’m here.”
In her recent interview that released this week, Doherty spoke to the PEOPLE magazine. She had stated, “I don’t want to die.”
She said that she is determined to get rid of the cancer, as she explained, “I’m not done with living. I’m not done with loving. I’m not done with creating. I’m not done with hopefully changing things for the better. I’m just not — I’m not done.”
In 2017, she announced that her cancer was gone as she received a mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation, but in 2019, the cancer came back, and metasized to her brain this time.
“It’s insane to me [that] we still don’t have a cure,” Doherty said.
She stated that she will try clinic trials of a new treatment, as she said about her challenges, “People just assume that it means you can’t walk, you can’t eat, you can’t work. They put you out to pasture at a very early age —‘You’re done, you’re retired,’ and we’re not.”
She had added, “My greatest memory is yet to come.”
“I know it sounds cheesy and crazy, but you’re just more aware of everything, and you feel so blessed. We’re the people who want to work the most, because we’re just so grateful for every second, every hour, every day we get to be here,” Doherty concluded.
