A woman shared her story on Reddit’s r/motherinlawsfromhell subreddit. She stated that her mother-in-law had called her 14-week-old grandson fat, as she suggested, they should take a picture of him from far, so he would look skinny enough.
The Redditor stated that her mother-in-law is one hell of a woman, which she has no respect to anyone’s boundaries. OP gave two examples to show her mean behaviour. She stated, her brother-in-law and his wife are not in speaking terms with the mother-in-law, and they didn’t even invited her to their wedding, after she insisted for a spesific family member to be invited, which they were not in good terms.
Then she gave the second example, which she stated, she had visited her own family, while she was engaged to her husband. Her mother-in-law wanted them to visit only her, and not the OP’s family. And OP added, ”When we got married we asked her to arrive a certain date as we were still getting ready and I was taking teacher licensure tests up until 2 days before the wedding. She did not understand, arrived early and I had to focus on their arrival instead of my test.”
And now, the main problem. OP explained that she gave birth to her son 14 weeks ago. As OP wanted her own mother to stay with her, her mother-in-law was sad that she couldn’t stay with them. OP stated, since she knows no boundaries, she constantly criticised her body, so that was why she wanted her own mother.
Even though her husband talked with his mother about the issue, she kept criticising, and talking without thinking.
When the Thanksgiving arrived, mother-in-law came to spend time with her grandson, for a week. Then she started to talk about how fat her grandson was. As OP explained, the doctors of her son stated that he was in perfect condition, in terms of weight, development, etc.
OP wrote, “She kept insisting in saying fat even though my husband kept telling her to stop to keep it to herself saying that our son is proportional to his weight and looks great and is healthy.”
After mother-in-law said, “take pictures of him from far away so he wouldn’t look so fat,” over the phone, to her husband, OP’s husband said his mother that she is uninvited.
When OP learned what her mother-in-law had commented, she couldn’t held her tears back.
OP wrote, “Who speaks like this about a baby? What is there to hide by taking a photo from far away? He is a gorgeous baby, happy and healthy! Even if he was overweight that is not her problem or something to hide.”
