A GRANDMOTHER HAD USED ALL HER MONEY TO RAISE HER GRANDSON, AND ONE DAY, LATER ON YEARS, HER GRANDSON HAD PAID BACK TO HER
Dorothy Perkins was 49 years old, when she lost her husband and her son and daughter-in-law. She was left with her grandson, four-year-old Jimmy.
Dorothy realised that she needed to take care of her grandson. She had gave little Jimmy the best education that she could find in schools, as she needed to work for it, because it was expensive.
Jimmy and his Granma Dolly had a connection that no other had. As Jimmy grew, and he became a great athlete at his school, his grandmother was proud of him, as she thinking that his parents would be proud too.
As it was time for Jimmy to go to a college, she needed more money, as colleges were expensive. Then Jimmy got accepted by Yale, thanks to his athletics, he entered the college with scholarship.
As she was aware that Jimmy would need money, she had borrowed from the bank, for her grandson to stay away from student loans.
At the time Jimmy was graduated from the college, but that made Dorothy broke, as she had no money left. Her friends were spending time enjoying their retirements, but she had a job to do, and she accomplished it.
She was thankful that her 29 year old grandson was now a successful lawyer at a great law firm.
Every Sunday, Jimmy was taking Granma Dolly to dinner. As she was about to became 75, she had decided to declare her bankruptcy. She was hiding her economical situation from Jimmy.
She called her grandson and his girlfriend to her house, because it might be the last time they spent together in the house of her.
“Honey, where is Rita?” Asked Dorothy.
“We broke up,” said Jimmy, as he was sad.
“But…I just saw you two, two weeks ago!” Dorothy said.
“You were so in love!”
“Rita said…she said I was cheap,” Jimmy stated.
“She said I never wanted to go out anywhere expensive, that I never… It doesn’t matter Grandma. It’s over.”
“Oh, honey,” Granma Dolly hugged to Jimmy.
“I’m so sorry…”
“Hey!” Jimmy said, “It’s YOUR birthday, not mine!”
“When I spoil you, I please myself!” Said Dorothy.
As they were talking, a friend of Jimmy had called him on the phone, Mark. “Jim, my man, listen, I’m booking us a week down in Mexico to go fishing…”
“Wait up!” Jimmt said.
“That sounds…when are you guys going?”
“Two months time — from the second to the ninth,” his friend Mark had said.
“Let me check my calendar,” said Jimmy, but he checked nothing, as Dorothy witnessed.
“Sorry, buddy, I have a conference in London that week. Maybe next time!”
Dorothy asked then, “Jimmy, why did you lie to Mark?”
“I don’t like fishing, Grandma Dolly,” Jimmy said.
Then they spent the rest of the day together.
On the next day, Dorothy went to the bank.
“Mr. Durrel,” Dorothy said, “I’m broke, and I won’t be able to make my loan payments this month.”
As Mr. Durrel had checked her account from his computer, he said, “I’m afraid there must be some mistake, Mrs. Perkins!”
“Your loans were all paid off yesterday,”
“And your bank account shows a balance of $110,000!”
Dorothy got shocked, “That’s impossible!”
“I owed over $200,000…”
“Yes you did,” Mr. Durrel said, “But as I’ve explained, your debt was cleared.”
“But who..” As Dorothy was about to speak, she understand that it was Jimmy, who paid her debts off. This was the reason why he broke up with his girlfriend, and didn’t go with his friends.
As she wanted to visit Jimmy on his office, he asked to Dorothy, “What’s wrong, Grandma Dolly?”
“Is everything OK?”
“Oh you silly boy,” said Dorothy, “You didn’t have to sacrifice yourself for me!”
“Sacrifice? I only did for you what you did for me long ago. You taught me that we put those we love first, and that is what I did.” Said Jimmy as he hugged her Granny.
