DAUGHTER UNINVITED HER MOTHER FROM HER GRADUATION, AFTER HER ABANDONING FATHER WANTED FROM HER
On the 1st of June, 2022, a Redditor mother had shared her story on Reddit’s r/AITA subreddit. The woman stated that she has an 18-year-old daughter, which she called “B”. OP stated that until their daughter was eight, and her father was not married with his new wife, he was very attentive towards their daughter, but after he married for the second time, he abandoned B, for the sake of his new family.
Since her daughter, B was 12, she did not saw her father, and talked with him occasionally once or twice in a year. As her father was making empty promises towards B, OP was sad that her daughter was getting sad everytime.
OP also stated that B was her best friend, and they were sharing a strong bond with each other. As OP said, they were doing everything together.
As B’s graduation was coming closer, OP was getting excited for her daughter’s special event. But after a week before the ceremony, B had talked with her mother about inviting her father to her graduation.
Then her father gave an ultimatom, he stated that he would only come to her graduation, if OP was not coming to the ceremony. Then her daughter had uninvited her from the ceremony, as she wanted to see her father.
OP was feeling devastated with the betrayal of her daughter. She wanted to be there when her daughter was graduating, as she was there for everytime she needed something in her life. She never left her alone, but her daughter B had betrayed her.
She had an argument with her daughter as she expressed that she wanted to be present at her graduation, while her daughter wanted her not to come for she wanted to see her father.
As she had pleaded with her daughter, as she wanted her to change her mind about her decision, her daughter, B, had stated, “I’m sorry, but I’m not changing my mind.”
As the day for her daughter’s graduation came, OP had made plans for that day, since she didn’t wanted to be alone at home. But as the time came, OP asked her daughter, who was still at home that why she didn’t left yet.
Then her daughter explained that her father broke his promise again, and he won’t come to the graduation. As OP hugged to her daughter, she stated that she should enjoy her graduation, since she will have her graduation once in her life time.
As B was afraid that she would be the only one who attended without her parents, she asked her mother that wouldn’t she comes with her, since her father was not going to be there. OP explained that she had plans, after she uninvited her from her graduation, which led to a stormy exit from B, as she was angry with her mother’s response.
OP decided not to attend to the graduation, and kept going on her plans she arranged for that day. When her daughter came back home, she cried for the week, as she was devastated with the situation.
Few weeks later, OP shared an updated about their problem, and she had stated that her daughter was leaving her alone, in her efforts to be with her father. After she talked with B’s therapist, she learned that her daughter had an idealized version of a relationship with her father.
As she had a talked with her daughter, OP stated that she apologized for not attending to her graduation, and she talked about how sorry she was feeling after B had uninvited her mother from her graduation. As B had apologized from her mother, they both wanted things to return back to normal.
Then she asked that if B was regretted uninviting OP, her daughter stated that she would prefer her father in there. As OP was hurt with the answer, her daughter kept talking that she would prefer her father over her mother, in every situation, even he had abandoned her.
She had expressed her hurted feelings, and stated that she was devastated to learn that her daughter would prefer her father over herself, and she was not as important for her daughter, as her daughter was important for her.
