HER SISTER-IN-LAW EXPECTED EXPENSIVE GIFTS FROM HER WISHLIST, BUT SHE CONFRONTED HER AS SHE HAD ENOUGH WITH HER BEHAVIOUR
A woman had told her story, in which her sister-in-law shared her expensive wishlist with the family, and the OP had confronted with her sister-in-law, which caused a drama. The woman shared her story on Reddit’s r/AITA subreddit.
For this Christmas, the OP shared that she and her husband are hosting the party, where their parents, brother, sister-in-law, and their children will attend.
Then OP stated that her sister-in-law, Amy, was complaining about the gifts she was receiving during past Christmas gatherings, as she talked about the experience she had on the last Christmas. OP and her husband had bought an expensive coffee maker for her. Their brother, Chris had liked the gift, while the sister-in-law, Amy had disliked it, as she stated, “oh well this isn’t really for me is it.” She wanted to show her disappointment with the gift, which OP and her husband had paid a lot for.
Then, few days ago, Amy had send an email to the family with her expensive wishlist. She stated what she wanted for herself and for her children, as OP shared, “expensive perfumes, links to expensive clothing items, and designer handbags.”
OP shared that she was livid, and her parents were offended as they decided not to talk about.
As OP couldn’t hold herself, she decided to reply the email, and she wrote that she will not buy the expensive things se wanted, and if she wants a Louis Vuitton handbag, OP stated that she knows some people who would help her to buy herself. And she concluded, as she said that if she wouldn’t be happy with the gift she receive, she is welcome to left her gift at her home.
Then her brother, Chris had called OP, and stated that his wife was only trying to give suggestions, which OP was disagreed. She stated that Amy was trying to get the stuff she couldn’t afford, and it was sneaky. Then OP stated that Amy was being selfish, childish, and was ruining the Christmas.
OP shared that her parents are thinking that she should not have said anything, but her other sister, Lucia had supported her, as she explained that she was about to talk too.
A Redditor had commented, “NTA but I have to ask: what kind of gifts do they give the rest of the family? Does she give dollar store gifts and ask for Louis Vuitton in exchange? I just want to know how much of an ***hole your SIL is lol.”
Another Redditor had said, “She’s attempting to co-opt large amounts of other people’s money for her own vain ends. It’s way past tacky, and firmly into “get fucked” territory. I would be openly mocking this person for behaving this way.”
