DAUGHTER-IN-LAW WANTED MOTHER-IN-LAW TO TAKE CARE OF HER CHILDREN, WHEN SHE WAS OFFERED A JOB FROM HER FIELD OF EXPERTISE, BUT MOTHER-IN-LAW HAD SOME PROBLEMS
A woman asked her mother-in-law to babysit her children, after she was offered a job from her area of expertise. But she had put some rules on her, about taking care of her children, and those rules were a problem for the mother-in-law. The mother-in-law had shared her story on Reddit’s r/AITA subreddit.
The mother-in-law, OP, shared that her son and her daughter-in-law has two kids, and her daughter-in-law was a stay at home mother for a while. As she wanted to go back to working, recently she received an offer from her work area. She asked for OP to babysit the children for a week, because they would only be able to arrange a daycare a week later. OP shared, “With their commutes it would be about nine hours a day of childcare.”
OP stated that she would probably take car of her other son’s children, but the rules they set while staying with children were too much for her. Since they were vegetarian, there was a strict diet list. Her daughter-in-law has some rules about language, and the TV is not allowed to the children. OP continued as, “she wants the four year old to do some enrichment worksheets that I would be expected to do. There is a very strict schedule. I do understand naps but I think the rest of it is too much when I would be doing them a favor.”
And the biggest problem with the rules was that she was not allowed to have any friends at home, when she was taking care of her grandchildren. OP explained that she has a close relationship with many of her friends, and almost everyday, they sit for a cup of coffee, or a tea. The reason her daughter-in-law didn’t wanted her friends at home when she is with the children, she was thinking that her mother-in-law’s friends were bad people.
OP talked with her son, and stated that what they were asking was too much, as the rules were too strict, and declined. Her son begged her, as her daughter-in-law had called her crying that how important for her to get the job, no matter what, OP didn’t accepted the rules.
