FATHER FOUND HIS DAUGHTER, AFTER 20 YEARS, AS HE BELIEVED THAT SHE WAS DEAD

–Story of the Day–

Jake and Nora Rodgers were informed that they lost their newborn daughter, as they were in hospital. As years passed by, Nora lost her life due to her heavy grief, over her daughter.

Jake was standing over the grave of his wife, next to the grave of his daughter, that he lost 20 years ago.

He remembered the past. Their nurse had said, “Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Rogers, it’s a baby girl!”

“Can I see her?” his wife asked, as she was exhausted with giving birth to her daughter.

“Of course! Here you go,” said the nurse, as she handed over the baby to her mother.

As Jake was looking at his daughter, he said to his wife, “Thank you, darling. Thank you so much for this miracle,”

“We did this together, honey. I wouldn’t have gotten through that difficult pregnancy without your help,” Nora responded to her husband.

“What should we name her?” Jake asked.

“I know we thought of several names already, but I don’t know if any of them fit anymore,” Nora said, and started to smile as she said, “How about Hope?”

Jake was happy with the name his wife chose. “Hope? I think that’s the best name for her. Hello, Hope, my darling baby girl. We’re going to love you so much.”

As Nora smiled to her husband, the nurse came and stated that they need to take the baby now, since they were going to run some tests on her, and Nora needed to rest.

Nora fell asleep, as she was exhausted, and Jake was sitting next to her, as he was excited and couldn’t sleep at all. But he was tired too, as he was nervous while waiting for the birth. So he fell a sleep too at one point.

As Jake remembered all over the grave of his daughter and wife, he cried. It was painful for him.

The couple had no other family than each other, so having a child was important for them. But they lost their child, and a while later, Jake was alone, as he lost his wife too.

As he was thinking of his daughter and wife, a sound had called him from behind.

“Hello?” said a young woman in her 20s. Jake was shocked, because the young lady was the spitting image of his wife, Nora.

“Nora?” said to himself Jake. He thought that he was going mental.

“I’m not Nora. My name is Nicole, and I wanted to talk to you,” the young lady said to Jake.

“What do you need, young lady?” Jake asked to Nicole.

“I believe you are my father. Dad, I’ve finally found you,” Nicole said, as Jake was shocked.

“What?” he said.

Then he remembered the past again.

Their doctor had came into their room, and woke them as he said, “I’m so sorry, Mr. and Mrs. Rogers. But your baby went into an unexpected cardiac arrest. We did everything we could, but despite our best efforts, we couldn’t revive her. I’m afraid she’s gone,”

It was just few hours ago that they were holding their newborn baby girl. They were shocked, they were devastated.

“NO! That’s not possible! Bring the doctor back! He’s lying!” Nora screamed as she looked at her husband first, who was freezed.

They both hugged and cried, both devastated with their loss.

Then he came back to the present.

“It’s the truth,” Nicole continued.

“I’m your daughter. Well, at least, that’s my theory.” she added.

Jake was angry, “I don’t understand. I don’t know you, young lady, and you don’t know me or my family. But my daughter died after childbirth all those years ago. Please, don’t play around with something that serious,”

Nicole said, “I would never joke about something like that. I swear. My parents are not my biological parents, but I look exactly like the picture on that woman’s grave. Didn’t you call me Nora? Isn’t that her?”

She had a point. She was the spitting image of his wife, Nora.

“Maybe you’re a distant relative or something,” Jake said, as he was thinking that the woman was a distant cousin.

“I don’t think so. Look, I’m 20 years old, and I was born at the George Washington University Hospital. I already investigated thanks to my friend who is a nurse there. There were only two girls born from two couples that day. One couple was my parents, and the other was you. Jake and Nora Rogers, correct?” Nicole asked.

“I don’t understand what you’re saying. You think you were switched at birth?” Jake was confused.

“That can’t be true.” he said.

“I’m 98% sure of it. I am almost sure that my parents’ real daughter was born sick, and they switched us. I’m even more certain of it now that I see you because I may look like the woman in the picture, but my eyes are clearly yours,” Nicole said.

Jake stated, “Isn’t that a crime? No doctor would do that,” he said, as he was not expecting a miracle and turning into a devastating experience again.

Nicole said, “There’s an open police investigation into the matter now. And my parents might even go to jail for it. So much has happened since I discovered I wasn’t their biological daughter. It’s been so complicated, and it would be hard to explain. But I wanted to meet you and see if you wanted to take a DNA test to confirm what I suspect,”

Then Jake started to tell their story. “Her name was Hope. Nora and I had a horrible time getting pregnant,”

“She finally carried our baby to term. We named her Hope because she was the most beautiful, the most amazing baby in the world. And she died suddenly. We saw her once. We held her once.”

“I’m so sorry you went through that,” Nicole said, as she was sobbing.

“My wife died of sheer grief two years later. She couldn’t deal with the loss,” Jake added.

“And now you’re telling me that 20 years of pain have been for nothing? You’re Hope?” he started to cry.

“Yes. I know it’s hard because finding out my parents were possibly involved in the theft of a child has been such a shock, but I have to know the truth.” Nicole said.

Jake accepted the DNA test offer, “Okay, let’s do the test,” he said.

Then he saw the memories once again, he was at the ambulance with his wife, Nora.

“No, baby! NO! You can’t leave me too,” he said.

But she was gone. As he lost his baby, he now lost his wife too, as he found her on the ground, when he came back from his work.

“I hope you find her out there where you’re going,” Jake had whispered into the ear of his wife, as she was gone in the ambulance.

“At least, you’re not in pain anymore,”

Jake was in a terrible state, and for months, he had thought about taking his own life too, but he couldn’t.

With Nicole, Jake went to a hospital to take the DNA test. At the hospital, Jake met with the detective who was responsible with the investigation. The detective was sure that something happened at the hospital 20 years ago, as he stated to Jake, and added that the results of the DNA test was going to be the proof he needed.

The test results came, and Nicole said, “Okay, here we go,”

She was laughing as she said, “Oh my God. It’s true! We’re 99.9% related. Dad, I did find you! Finally!”

Jake couldn’t held his tears back, as he hugged and cried with Nicole.

“My dear Hope,” Jake said, as he was having problem with talking.

“Come here.” He hugged to his daughter, after 20 years, again.

The “parents” of Nicole got arrested, as they had confessed their crimes.
