An African woman, Safina Namukwaya, received her twin children through IVF, at the age of 70. The premature born children are under control, and it is stated that they have no health issues currently.
Namukwaya believes that is is a miracle that she was able to gave birth to her children at the age of 70. As it is a medical success too, it is also showing the willpower and the strenght of a commited woman.
She lost almost all of her money in order to get pregnant, and faced health issues along the way, as she stated that it was not an easy journey for her.
Her doctor had led her to Dr. Edwart Tamale Sali of Women’s Hospital International and Fertility Centre in Kampala, Uganda, she had no financial power to accomplish the treatment.
“I was brought here by a friend who got a baby through the same procedure, and she assured me that I’ll be able to get a child after trying for a long time.”
As the doctors tried IVF on her, she became pregnant. And on the 29th of November, at 12:04 p.m., she delivered her twins, a boy and a girl. The children came earlier than their due, at the 31st week of pregnancy, and they are now in NICU, under Dr. Sali’s attention.
Namukwaya was incredibly happy that she was able to gave birth to her children, but not her partner. She said that he left her, when her partner learned that she was pregnant with twins. “Men don’t like to be told that you are carrying more than one child, ever since I was admitted here, my man has never showed up.”
She always wanted to be a mother, as she watched her neighbors children to play around, and go back to their parents. She had a miscarriage back in time, and she lost her husband in 1992.
As she was aware that it was incredibly hard to conceive a child at her age, she wanted to try her luck no matter what, and she gave birth to her twins. As she knows that she will face troubling times as time passes, but she also believes that every child came with their blessing.
Dr. Sali, had stated that it is possible to became pregnant at that age, if the physical ability and strength of the woman is enough.
