11-YEAR-OLD GIRL WAS SENT BACK HOME FROM THE SCHOOL, THE REASON FOR IT WAS HER SHOES, HE MOTHER HAD TALKED ABOUT THE ISSUE

11-year-old girl, Layla, sent back to her house from Grace College, because of her shoes. Her mother, Melissa Pope had talked about the issue.

Many students were sent back home because of their shoes this week, and many parents got frustrated and enraged regarding the issue.

She was horrified, when she learnt that her daughter was sent back home because of her shoes. As she was unable to, her mother had gathered 11-year-old Layla from the school.

As Pope stated, the teachers of her daughter had “made her sit on hard, wooden floors for hours,” while she was waiting for her grandmother to pick her from the school.

“There were 41 other people, and basically, she wasn’t allowed to leave. They made her write down rules saying why it was her fault; she was in isolation – because she hadn’t followed the rules.” Said Melissa Pope.

For Pope, her daughter was, “treated like a dog.” As the teachers had stated that they are either can eat their lunch, or have a drink, not both.

Grace College had stated that wearing Vivienne Westwood was a health issue, because their feet were not covered fully, but some of the students who were wearing Nike boots had sent back to their houses too. Pope had said, “just awful.”

“It’s a school, it’s not a camp. They’re getting treated like they’re in the Army, and they have got to do this and that and wear this and that. It got to the point where it wasn’t even about the shoes. I have not sent her to school today; I’m going to try and get her transferred to a different school.” Pope said.

A representative of the school had said, “We reiterate the importance of applying our rules consistently on issues like uniform, not least for the vast majority of families who have sent children to school properly attired this week, and to ensure that all students feel welcome, safe, and free from any pressures.”
