STEPDAUGHTER’S SURPRISE TO STEPMOTHER DURING HER 18TH BIRTHDAY HAD CHANGED THEIR LIVES

Sarah was 11 when she lost her mother. She thought that her pain would never end. Her father was trying to find a cure for his own pain, and another woman became that cure, as he remarried later.

For Sarah, her stepmother became a pillar, which she was receiving an incredible support. She was loving her as Sarah needed.

“I’m here for you, always,” she would say to Sarah, as she would add that she was not there for taking her mother’s place.

But another tragedy hit Sarah’s live, as she lost her father too. As she was sitting with her stepmother, in their living room, “I can’t imagine how hard this is for you,” she said. “But I want you to know, I’m here for you. We’re family, no matter what.”

“But everyone’s saying you’ll leave… go back to your family,” Sarah said. “Will I…will I go to an orphanage?”

“No, sweetie. You’re not going anywhere and neither am I. Look at me,” her stepmother said. “We’ll get through this together.” She said, as she kissed Sarah’s forehead, and hugged.

On her 18th birthday, when she came back home from school, her stepmother welcomed her as she hugged. “Happy birthday, sweetheart,” she said. And she gave her a gift box.

“Thank you,” Sarah said. “I have a surprise for you too, but… you’ll need to pack your things.”

“Pack my things?” Her stepmother was confused, “Are you… Are you serious?”

“Yes,” Sarah said, “I want you to pack your things in the next hour. You’re leaving this house.”

The stepmother’s face turned pale, “But why, dear? I thought we were a family…” She said as her eyes started to tearing up.

“It’s time,” Sarah said. “I’ve been planning this since the day Dad died. You are going to another city.”

Sarah took her stepmother’s belongings, and put them in her car. She then started to drive the car to the destination, where her stepmother sat through the ride in silence, in sadness.

“You didn’t know that my father opened an account in my name when I was a child, where he saved money for my education. Since his death, I’ve also put all my money, from my part-time jobs and gifts, into this account. Now, there’s a large sum.” Sarah broke the silence.

“I understand. You’re an adult now, you have money and you don’t need me anymore. But why are you sending me so far away? You don’t want to see me at all?” Her stepmother said.

Then they arrived at the destination, where they stepped out of the car, in front of a beautiful house. “I will be spending some of this money on education,” Sarah said, then pointed the house. “At an Ivy League university in the city, we’re in now, where I have already been accepted. Do you see this house?”

“Yes,” her stepmother said, in confusion.

“I bought this house for you,” Sarah then continued. “There was enough money for everything. Now I will study here and you will live next door. We won’t have to be apart, and if you want, you can go back to our old house at any time, or we can return together after I finish my studies.”

Her stepmother started to cry then, as she hugged to Sarah. “I love you, Sarah,” she said in a whisper.

“I love you, too,” Sarah said, as she was hugging to her too.
