POLICE HAD PULLED OVER THE 12-YEAR-OLD, AS HE WAS RUSHING HIS MOTHER TO HOSPITAL
12-year-old Jimmy, and his mother Macy were living alone, as his father had left them, when Jimmy was eight. Macy was everything Jimmy had ever needed, and he was aware of the situation, as he loved his mother unconditionally.
They would go every weekend, to another adventure together. They would go to beaches, to mountains, to hikes, anywhere they want.
On a weekend again, the mother and son decided to travel to Nevada from California. As they were on the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, they had stopped to take some pictures of the great view they were facing.
On their way back, Macy had stopped the car on the road, as she said to Jimmy, “Hold on a second, sweetheart. I don’t feel so well,”
And in manner of seconds, she lost her consciousness, and fell on the other passenger seat.
“Mom! Mom! Are you okay?” Jimmy screamed. “Wake up, mom!” He continued. He tried to wake his mother with water.
Macy wasn’t responsive, as Jimmy was looking around to see at least a building, but they were in the middle of the desert.
Then he had pulled his mother to the backseat, as he went in to the driver seat. As a 12-year-old boy, he didn’t had a license to drive, but he had no other choice.
He had put the name of the closest hospital from the GPS, and started to drive. It was a 10 minute drive, but he needed to be fast, since he didn’t know what was wrong with his mother.
As he went to the main road, a police car had appeared out of nowhere, and the officer had talked through the megaphone, “Stop the car on the side of the road!”
Jimmy was scared, as he didn’t have a license, but he pulled the car over. Two officers had started to walk towards Jimmy.
“Boy, what on earth were you thinking?” Said an officer, “You’re definitely too young to drive. What’s happening here?”
“I’m sorry, Officer Winston,” said Jimmy, as he saw the name of the officer, from his nameplate.
“I’m driving my unconscious mom to the hospital! My mom was driving us back home from Nevada when she suddenly stopped the car on the side of the road because she was feeling sick.”
“She lost consciousness immediately after. I had no choice but to drive us. I was scared she wouldn’t make it,” Jimmy started to cry, as he was stressed with the situation.
Then one officer had looked at the backseat of the car, to confirm Jimmy, then he saw that the mother was indeed lying on the backseat.
“Go sit on the passenger seat. I’m going to drive you to the hospital,” the officer said.
His partner officer was not on the same page, as he said, “Come on, man. This kid didn’t follow the law! He should have called 911 and waited for them to come instead of driving. We should get this car impounded and arrest the boy,”
“We’re talking about a LIFE here! Look at her. She’s getting paler by the second! She needs to get to the hospital quickly!” Officer Winston had shouted.
“You’re going to get fired! Everything should be done according to the law. We took an oath. Don’t you remember?” His partner had said.
“Maybe I’ll get fired, but my life won’t end at being a police officer. This woman’s life can end today if she doesn’t get to the hospital. I took an oath to protect the community I am serving. I want this boy to have a chance to grow up with his mom even if it’s the last thing I do as a policeman,” Winston said to his partner.
Officer Winston had rushed towards the hospital, then they had immediately took Macy to an emergency room. He had stayed with Jimmy, until the doctors had stated that, “Thankfully, you were able to take her to the hospital before the aneurysm ruptured. If you brought her in ten minutes later, it would have been challenging to save her,”
Jimmy started to cry as he was overwhelmed with the situation. “Thank you, Officer Winston. If it weren’t for you, I would have been an orphan,” he said.
Officer Winston was happy that he had saw the boy, and decided to help, as Macy was alive thanks to him.
Until Macy left the hospital, Winston made sure that their needs are being fulfilled, as he had cared Jimmy. As she recovered, and left the hospital, she had talked with his precinct, and praised officer Winston.
As time passed, they became good friends.
